Student conference on Alija Izetbegović in Bursa, Republic of Turkey


On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Alija Izetbegović's birth, Fund “Bošnjaci” the “Alija Izetbegović” Foundation and the “Alija Izetbegović” Museum organized a Student Conference at Uludağ University in Bursa, Turkey.

The delegation of our country consisted of Šahin Kerla, Director of Fund “Bošnjaci”, Esma Zlatar, Secretary General of the “Alija Izetbegović” Foundation, Nervan Dizdar, Curator of the “Alija Izetbegović” Museum and five students who are scholarship holders of the Fund.

Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz, Rector of Uludağ University and Oktay Yılmaz, Mayor of Yıldırım Municipality in Bursa, as the hosts of the conference, received our delegation, welcomed them and wished them a pleasant stay in Bursa.

The conference was attended by a large number of students and professors of Uludağ University, Honorary Consul of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Bursa, Mr. Muzaffer Cilek and others, where students from our country, after studying the works of Alija Izetbegović, presented their works that they prepared under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Admir Mulaosmanović. The aim of the conference was to introduce young people from the Republic of Turkey to the vision, messages, life, work and writings of Alija Izetbegović, the first president of the Presidency of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The attendees were addressed on behalf of the host by Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz, Rector of Uludağ University, Oktay Yılmaz, Mayor of Yıldırım Municipality in Bursa, then Alinur Aktaş, former Mayor of Bursa City Municipality and Prof. Dr. Celalettin Yanık. On behalf of the delegation of our country, the attendees were addressed by Esma Zlatar, Secretary General of the ''Alija Izetbegović'' Foundation. The moderator of the conference was Prof. Dr. Admir Mulaosmanović.

The following presented their papers at the conference: Lamija Veladžić, a master's student at the Faculty of Economics, University of Sarajevo, on the topic ''Alija Izetbegović in the Eyes of Others'', Amina Karić, a senior at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sarajevo, on the topic ''Freedom in the Works of Alija Izetbegović Based on the Work "My Escape to Freedom", Nedžma Latić, a master's student in management at the International University of Sarajevo, on the topic ''Law and Justice in the Thoughts of Alija Izetbegović'', Elvedin Omerović, a master's student at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo, on the topic ''Alija Izetbegović's Views on the Problem of Education in the Islamic World'' and Fatih Žgalj, a student at the Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo, on the topic ''The Islamic World Waiting for Godot''. In addition to students from our country, two students from the Republic of Turkey presented their papers.

The conference coordinator, on behalf of the host, was Mr. Cenita Kocaman, Secretary General of BİGMEV and associate of Mr. Muzaffer Cilek, Honorary Consul of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Bursa.

On this occasion, an exhibition about Alija Izetbegović was opened, organized by the ''Alija Izetbegović'' Museum through a display of documents, letters and family photographs.

The Association of Balkan Businessmen in Bursa hosted our delegation with a suitable social gathering and dinner.

On the second day, visits were organized to the Consulate of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Bursa, then to the Panorama Museum, Setbaşı, Ulu Mosque, Kozahan, Tophane and other significant cultural and historical landmarks of Bursa.
